Introduction
The Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) has officially formed a parliamentary board to prepare for the upcoming by-elections in the 07 Soreng-Chakung and 11 Namchi-Singhithang Assembly Constituencies. This decision was announced in an official order signed by Pawan Gurung, General Secretary of the SKM.
Composition of the Parliamentary Board
The newly established Parliamentary Board will be responsible for selecting the party’s candidates for the elections. The board is chaired by Kunga Nima Lepcha, the Working President, with other members including:
- Ven. Sonam Lama (Chief Coordinator)
- Arun Kumar Upreti (Secretary General)
- Bhoj Raj Rai (Senior Vice President)
- Nar Bahadur Dahal (Chettri) (Senior Vice President)
Regulatory Measures for Public Order
To ensure a smooth election campaign, Dhiraj Subedi, the District Collector and District Election Officer of Soreng District, has implemented strict regulations aimed at maintaining public order. These measures, enacted under Section 163 of the B.N.S.S. 2023, include:
- Prohibiting gatherings of five or more individuals without prior approval.
- Banning the possession of arms.
- Limiting vehicle rallies to no more than ten vehicles.
Monitoring and Enforcement
In addition to these measures, the use of loudspeakers and the sharing of provocative content on social media will be closely monitored to prevent any disruption to public peace. Subedi emphasized that these regulations are crucial for ensuring a fair and peaceful electoral process. He also warned that any violations of these prohibitory orders will result in punitive measures as outlined in relevant laws.
