Sikkim is set to host its first state-level car rally, “Mountain Rush,” starting April 23, marking a historic milestone as the state celebrates its 50th Statehood Anniversary. This grand event is expected to draw national attention to motorsports and tourism in the region.
National Champions to Race Through Sikkim’s Scenic Terrain
The rally, organized in collaboration with the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI), will be conducted in the Time, Speed, Distance (TSD) format. Officials confirmed that this rally has attracted the highest number of national racing champions to ever participate in a single event of this kind in India.
A Route Designed to Promote Adventure and Rural Tourism
The multi-day rally will cover all six districts of Sikkim, including popular locations like Lachung, Ravangla, Soreng, Namchi, and Pakyong, before concluding in Gangtok. The route has been designed not only to challenge drivers but also to highlight the state’s natural beauty and encourage rural tourism.
A Boost to Sikkim’s Tourism and Motorsports Landscape
Yougan Tamang, Press Secretary to Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, stated, “This rally is a powerful opportunity to promote tourism and showcase Sikkim’s potential for high-end motorsports.” The FMSCI also praised Sikkim’s terrain for its suitability for such events.
Celebrating a Historic Journey Since 1975
Once a monarchy, Sikkim became India’s 22nd state on May 16, 1975. The rally is part of a year-long series of events to commemorate the state’s golden jubilee. With the state’s rich cultural heritage, scenic landscapes, and winding mountain roads, officials believe the event could place Sikkim on the national motorsports map.
