The Southwest Monsoon is retreating from western India, with parts of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Punjab, and Haryana witnessing the withdrawal, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Despite this, the IMD has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall over Uttarakhand, eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim over the next two days.
Rainfall Forecast for Northern and Eastern States

Uttarakhand is expected to experience intense rainfall on Tuesday, with isolated places receiving 12–20 cm of rain.

Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim are likely to see heavy rainfall on September 16 and 17.

In the past 24 hours, extremely heavy rainfall (over 21 cm) was recorded at isolated locations in Uttarakhand and Meghalaya.

Other regions reporting very heavy to heavy rainfall include eastern Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, Marathwada, Tamil Nadu, Rayalaseema, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Gangetic West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Assam, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Telangana, and parts of Maharashtra.
Authorities have urged residents in flood-prone and hilly areas to stay alert for possible flooding and landslides.
