Sikkim University Introduces Monthly Menstrual Leave and Adjusts Attendance Requirements

Sikkim University has introduced a policy allowing female students to take one day of menstrual leave each month. This decision, formalized through a notification by Registrar Laxuman Sharma on December 4, follows a proposal submitted by the Sikkim University Students’ Association (SUSA) in the previous month.

The menstrual leave will not be applicable during university examinations, and it will be counted toward the mandatory 75 percent attendance requirement needed for eligibility to sit for semester exams. This move is designed to support the health and well-being of female students, ensuring they have the necessary accommodations to manage their health during menstruation.
