Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang Launches Major Welfare Scheme
Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang has inaugurated a significant financial support program for non-working mothers across the state. As part of the newly introduced initiative, all non-working women who are mothers will receive an annual grant of Rs 40,000, distributed in two installments of Rs 20,000 each.
First-Ever ‘Aama Samman Diwas’ Celebrated
The launch coincided with the first celebration of Aama Samman Diwas, a day dedicated to honoring the strength, sacrifices, and contributions of mothers in Sikkim. The event was held at the Rangpo Playground and attended by thousands, including mothers from all over the state.
Alongside the monetary assistance, each beneficiary will also receive a hot water bottle as a token of appreciation.
Government Commitment and Budget
The state government has allocated a total budget of Rs 128 crore to successfully implement this welfare scheme, demonstrating a strong commitment to supporting mothers who contribute significantly to the social fabric of Sikkim.
Chief Minister Highlights Emotional and Political Significance
Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Tamang described the introduction of Aama Samman Diwas as both a personal and political milestone. He emphasized that mothers have always played a pivotal role in Sikkim’s social and political landscape, especially during challenging times.
He remarked,
“Mothers stood alongside revolutionaries, sharing their struggles and sacrifices.”
The CM also reflected on Jan Unmukti Diwas (August 10), the day marking his release from what he termed “unjust imprisonment.” He recalled how mothers visiting him during that time gave him courage and kept his revolutionary spirit alive.
Summary
Sikkim’s new financial grant for non-working mothers marks a historic step towards empowering women and recognizing their vital role in society. The Rs 40,000 annual aid, combined with the introduction of Aama Samman Diwas, reflects the state’s dedication to honoring and supporting mothers across the region.
