Sikkim CM Prem Singh Tamang Attends Sacred Mahakalla Pooja at Rumtek Monastery

Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) participated in the Mahakalla Pooja, one of the most sacred Buddhist rituals, at Rumtek Monastery.

Significance of Mahakalla Pooja

The Mahakalla Pooja, also known as the Kagew Protector Ritual, is an important spiritual ceremony held every two years before the Tibetan Losar (New Year). This traditional Buddhist ritual is performed to seek divine blessings and spiritual protection for devotees and the community.

Chief Minister as Chief Guest

CM Prem Singh Tamang attended the ceremony as the Chief Guest, accompanied by his spouse, former MLA Krishna Kumari Rai, and several dignitaries. The event witnessed a large gathering of monks, devotees, and officials, all participating in the sacred rituals with deep devotion.

Cultural and Spiritual Importance

Addressing the gathering, MLA Sonam Venchungpa emphasized the cultural significance of the Mahakalla Pooja in Sikkim’s spiritual heritage. He highlighted how the ritual strengthens Buddhist traditions and holds special importance for Rumtek Monastery and the Buddhist community.

The pooja ceremony involved elaborate prayers, sacred chants, and traditional offerings, invoking the blessings of Mahakalla, the protector deity in Buddhist tradition. The monastery echoed with hymns and spiritual chants as monks performed the holy rituals.
